Sheila Ramani was born on March 2, 1932, in Karachi and went on to become one of the few actresses from Sindh, besides Sadhana to join the Indian film industry. She earned the title Miss Mussoorie in 1948 and was crowned Miss Shimla in 1950. She was introduced into the Bollywood industry by the popular filmmaker Chetan Anand Chetan Anand (from 3 January 1921 to 6 July 1997) >> Read More... and made her debut as Champa in the movie Badnam (1952). She mostly played roles of upper-class, modern women in the movies she appeared in. She got the opportunity to play the lead role in a Pakistani film but then moved back to India to star in more Bollywood movies.

She starred in India’s first Sindhi film, Abana (1958), and Sadhana played the role of her younger sister. She gained popularity and won hearts nationwide with her performance in the movie Taxi Driver (1954). Sports like football and swimming always held a fascination for Sheila and she was practically addicted to ballroom dancing. On March 31, 1963, she married Jall Edi Cowasji, the president of Bombay Dyeing and lived with him in Mumbai till 1981. After his death, she moved to Sydney, Australia to live on her own but had to return to India in the later years due to approaching health issues. She began living in her ancestral home in Mhow and passed away there on July 15, 2015.
