Suryakant Mandhare was born in 1925 in Kolhapur, Bombay Presidency, British India. His real name was Vaman Tukaram Mandare. He was an actor and director by profession. He studied painting from Baba Gajbar. He was a painter. Suryakant learnt filmmaking from Bhalji Pendharkar.
Suryakant entered the industry in 1938, when he was 12, and he appeared in Bhalji's movie Dhruv. Some of his work in films includes Bahirji Naik in 1943, Sasurvaas in 1946, Chittor Vijay in 1947, Jadui Ratan in 1947, Sati Vijay in 1948, Veer Arjun in 1952, Ratnaghar in 1955, Pavankhind in 1956, Sangte Aika in 1959, Mansala Pankh Astat in 1961, Sadhi Manse in 1965, Patlachi Soon in 1966, Netaji Palkar in 1978, Two Women in 1996, and the list goes on and on.
