Born in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir in 1926, Pushkar Bhan was a theatre actor and director. Pushkar was interested in acting right from his childhood days. After completing his bachelor’s degree in 1947, Pushkar Bhan became associated with the Cultural Forum of the National Cultural Front. He wrote plays like Lalkar and Ya Tan Ya Tadakh. Both of them received public attention. His acting roles in plays like Yamburzhol, Shahid Sherwani, and Yeh Kashmir Hai were well received by the audience. Pushkar Bhan wrote and acted in several plays after this. In 1949, he moved to Mumbai for work but continued his passion for acting. Pushkar became associated with the Indian People’s Theatre Association in Mumbai. After his day job, he would work for the theatre association. Pushkar Bhan was awarded Padma Shri in 1974.
