Joginder Shelly was an Indian director, writer, singer, producer, and actor. He was also a songwriter and a distributor. He produced and directed two blockbuster Hindi movies, namely Ranga Kush and Bindiya Aur Bandook. Joginder was born on 4th July 1949 in Khanewal, Punjab. He won the plagiarism suit against the producers of the movie Sholay for copying his work. The character Ranga Kush was similar to Gabbar Singh's character in the film Sholay.

He produced and directed a lot of movies. Most of his films didn't receive any recognition at the Box Office. He was even placed on the list of worst directors. Joginder directed and produced a lot of poorly cast movies. Most of his films were poorly made and directed, consisted of uneven casts, strange dialogues, and poor plot elements. He achieved success when he directed and produced the movie Bindiya Aur Bandook. After the success of Bindiya Aur Bandook and Ranga Kush, Joginder decided to make a sequel to the film Bindiya Aur Bandook.

The movie was released against J.P Dutta's LOC. The movie failed miserably and didn't earn much success at the box office though he delivered a hit song in the film named Main Hoon Bottle Band Sharab. After that, Joginder never returned to the big screen and produced and acted in small budget movies and Punjabi T.V serials. His film, Ranga Kush was repeatedly featured in the house of Parliament. Joginder was also a trained Pilot. He used to work with Indira Gandhi before turning into an actor. Joginder has acted in a lot of movies.

His notable works include movies like Khooni Tantrik, Meri Jung Ka Elaan, Ganga Aur Ranga, Kaun Kare Kurbani, The Revenge: Geeta Mera Naam, Jago Hua Savera, and many more. Joginder suffered from kidney and liver problems and died on 15th June 2009. He is survived by his two sons, a daughter, and a wife.

Joginder Shelly was a prolific director who came to be known as the King of B and C grade movies. Besides being a helmsman, he worked as an actor, producer, writer, and distributor. The commercially successful filmmaker is known chiefly for Bindiya Aur Bandook, Bindiya Aur Bandook Part II, and Ranga Khush. On July 4, 1949, Shelly was born in Khanewal, Punjab (presently in Pakistan). In his own words, he worked as a pilot for Indira Gandhi before foraying into the film industry. He debuted as an actor with the 1960 movie Hum Hindustani and others like Heer Ranjha, Purab Aur Pachhim, Bachpan, Hungama, Wafaa, etc. Shelly's big break came with the film Bindiya Aur Bandook where he portrayed the character of Daku Ranga. Both the film and his character were super-hit, with kids mimicking Ranga's crazy laughter and eye-rolling. A two-word dialogue in the above movie led to Joginder producing another film titled Ranga Khush, where he played Ranga. Later he directed a sequel to Bindiya Aur Bandook titled Bindiya Aur Bandook Part II. The movie garnered attention for its hit song Main Hoon Bottle Band. Joginder scripted, directed, and acted in other movies like Pandit Aur Pathan, Fauji, Pyasa Shaitan, Kasam Durga Ki. He worked on films such as Son Of Dracula, Bhojpuri flick Hum To Ho Gayi Ni Tohar, Jungle, and Meri Ganga Ki Saugandh.

Other acting credits include Duplicate Sholay, Jeene Nahin Doongi, Kaun Karega Insaaf, Memsaab No. 1, Maharani, Ek Lootera, Bindiya Mange Bandook, Jungle Tarzan, among others. He played Lakhan Singh in Bhai Thakur, Thakur Dilawar Singh in Meri Jung Ka Elan, and Shaitan Singh in The Revenge: Geeta Mera Naam. In the 2000 film Mita De Bindiya Utha De Bandook, he portrayed the character of Daku Jaggavar. He acted the part of Ranga in Ganga Aur Ranga, Tilakdhari in Insaniyat Ke Devta, and Jagga in Police Aur Mujrim. His directorial credits include Bindiya Aur Bandook Part II, Bindiya Mange Bandook, Yeh Hain Basti Badmashon Ki, Hind Ki Beti, Ganga Aur Ranga, and Aadamkhor.
