Krishnalal Sridharini was born on the 16th of September 1911 in Umrala. He was an Indian poet, playwright, and journalist. He studied in Dakshinamurti Vinay Mandir, Bhavnagar, and later joined Gujarat Vidyapith in 1929. He graduated in 1933 from Shantiniketan (Visva- Bharati University). He went to the US for further studies in 1934. He completed his Masters in Sociology and Economics in 1935 from New York University. He did his MS in 1936 and completed his Ph.D. from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1940. In his lifetime, he wrote 16 plays. To name a few would be Peela Palash (1934), Dungali no Dado, Priya Gori, Vrushal, Vijali, Sonpari, Mor na inda, Dusku and others. His first poetry collection, called Kodiya, was published in 1934.
He also wrote a short story Insaan Mita Doonga, based on his experiences with his inmates during imprisonment. He also authored some English books, the most famous one being, My India, My America (1941), which was based on his experiences during his time in America. Some of his works include, The Mahatma and the World (1946), Smiles from Kashmir (1959), The Big Four India (1941), Warning to the West (1943), The Adventures of the Upside- Down Tree (1959), The Journalist in India (1956), Story of the Indian Telegraph (1953). One of his books, War without Violence, turned out to have a significant impact on the American Civil Rights Movement. Sridharini wrote several journals and articles for newspapers, including The New York Times and Vogue. He died on the 23rd of July in Delhi.
