The serial follows the story with the names of the characters changed respectively. For example, Ammu is Bibi, Rahel is Zoya and Estha is Jugnoo. Zoya and Jugnoo are portrayed as fraternal twins just as in the original story.

The serial focuses on the stereotypical mentality of men that have oppressed women for so long and still continue to do so as a result for which a woman, a wife, a daughter suffers at the hands of society at large. The serial tells the story of how the twins and their mother face several obstacles in their life to a point where they all go their separate ways and yet fail to achieve true happiness.

The twins especially get separated and are put through a number of situations which leave them to fend for themselves and get tested in ways that they never imagined. It proved to be weary and although they search through the crowds for years at large they never find anyone who could understand them better than each other and that leaves the both of them to reunite in a night of grief, searching for comfort and warmth in each other that they have failed to achieve while being with others.
