Khalid Ahmed was born in Patna, Bihar, India. He is a well-known Pakistani performer. He moved to Pakistan in his teens in the 1970s. Despite an early interest in the arts (he learned to play the banjo and Hawaiian guitar), he first earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of California, where he also taught the subject for a time at NED University in Karachi before going to study theatre at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Imtiaz Ali, a Bollywood director, is his nephew. Ahmed's TV show, 'Talkhiyan,' which aired in India, received positive feedback.
