The show aired on 21 November 2010 and instantly caught the attention of the masses with its brilliant storyline. 

Mera Saaein means ‘My lord.’The lord here is our protagonist- Malik Wajahat Ali, a feudal lord filled with misogyny. In pursuing a male heir, he exploits the lives of many women around him, treating them as mere vessels and not humans. While the story features Wajahat Ali and his sexist ways, it also presents the dismantled lives of the women, mainly Shazmeen. Shazmeen is a young, self-reliant girl studying in the UK.

She has no siblings but finds a bond more potent than blood in her friend Naina, whom she met in the UK. Wajahat is also a politician, and so, inspired by his fake political agendas, Shazmeen marries him. Their marriage was a sham, instead, a deal where both parties want something out of the other, but here, they tie knots and call it “love.” Shazmeen intends to fulfill her aspirations through Wajahat’s political party, and Wajahat, yet again, has found a young empty vessel. 

Wajahat has six children from his first wife, Naima, and five daughters from two other secretive marriages. He is still desperate to have a son. He divorces his second wife and makes her and her three children disappear from his life. He gets his third wife to go through an abortion and send her daughters away as well. His Hunt for a new wife does not stop here, and simultaneously, he carries out an affair with his maid, Zeenat. Right after catching his eye on Shazmeen, he manipulates her into marrying him. During this time, Zeenat tells him that she is pregnant. But confident that he will get a male heir through UK returned beauty, Shazmeen, Wajahat makes Zeenat go through an abortion. 

The storyline takes a darker twist when after giving birth to three daughters, Shazmeen is exposed to the true face of Wajahat. Losing sanity in the game of love, Zeenat poisons Naima. She even plans to kill Shazmeen as, but Wajahat murders her after coming to terms with her intentions. Wajahat is not only accountable for destroying the lives of the women but also for wars between them.

Shazmeen’s UK best friend, Naina, is in an unhappy marriage with Farhad, who abuses her. She needs shelter while going through a divorce, and Wajahat sees this as an opportunity. As he gets Farhad murdered, he tricks Naina into a secretive marriage. This creates rivalry between the two best friends when Shazmeen learns that Naina is not only secretly married to Wajahat but also pregnant with a boy. To take revenge for all his destruction and exploitation of the lives of so many women. Shazmeen kills Wajahat by the end. The story ends with glorifying women’s empowerment, as Shazmeen takes this bold step just to free herself and the other women from Wajahat and his toxic masculinity.
