The serial tells the story of three young individuals who get wrapped up in a circle of jealousy, betrayal and abuse. Aswad, Mehreen and Mashal are cousins. Aswad is portrayed as a kind and humble person who cares for both Mehreen and Mashal and considers them as his best friends. Mehreen is born and brought up in a poor household but she is kind hearted and intelligent and she loves Aswad. Mashal is a true beauty and is also in love with Aswad.

However, when Mehreen's father becomes a drug addict and gets involved in the whole business, her mother threatens to leave him and take Mehreen away with her. The thought of losing his beloved daughter is too much for Mehreen’s father and hence he commits suicide as a result of drug overdose. Mehreen's mother remarries but her step-father doesn't accept Mehreen as family and asks her to leave to which Mehreen's mother agrees. Everyone including all the family members start to hate Mehreen for the past regarding her with wary as her father's daughter. After getting abandoned she moves in with her aunt in Mashal's house. Saleha, Aswad's mother sees her for who she truly is and loves her as she would her own daughter. Mehreen grows up as a strong and brave woman who knows how to mask her emotions and has complete control over herself. Being a very talented artist she wins many medals for her intelligence, knowledge and artistic skills.

Her talents impress Mashal's mother Shahgufta and she wishes that Mashal should learn something from her sister. Mashal has always been a beauty with no brains which creates an inferioty complex leading to Mashal feeling jealous of Mehreen and hating her. Shahgufta forces Mashal to be like Mehreen. Mashal begins to read Mehreen's journals without her knowledge and goes through her stuff all the time without her permission in order to get to know her better and do things that might tarnish the reputation of Mehreen in any way possible. She begins to copy her behaviour and starts to spread false rumours about Mehreen. Aswad who had been away all this time for his studies gets to know about Mehreen from Mashal. Mashal who has feelings for Aswad feeds him false information regarding Mehreen saying things that make Mehreen seem like a villain in front of Aswad. Aswad starts to hate Mehreen believing Mashal. When the time comes for marriage, Mehreen wishes to start a relationship with a man named Saffwan but Mashal sets a plan in motion that causes misunderstandings in between them leading to Mehreen rejecting him even though he later realised that it was all Mashal's doing.

Saleha, Aswad's mother wants Aswad to marry Mehreen and not Mashal and hence he has to reject Mashal leading her to have an absolute heart-break. However, a chain of events leads Mashal to die and Mehreen gets falsely accused for the murder. Their maid Shabbo is shown to know something about the whole ordeal but she decides to keep her mouth shut, horrified as to what may happen next. In jail, Mehreen hallucinates about her father and Aswad not being able to believe that she is accused for something she didn't do. Aswad bails her out with his lawyer and she returns home. Everyone hates her because they all believe her to be a murderer. Aswad decides to marry her but his intentions were only to take revenge for the death of Mashal. He abuses her both mentally and physically after the marriage blaming her for Mashal's death which causes her mental health to deteriorate even further. When he forces her to sign an affidavit forcing her to confess as a murderer, it becomes the last straw for Mehreen and she has a mental breakdown leading her to get admitted in a hospital.

When the psychiatrist tells Aswad of Mehreen's condition and says that he was majorly responsible for her mental condition, he feels a bit guilty for his actions. However, when Mashal's parents ask him to take Mehreen's belongings so that they can finally get rid of her, the actual truth begins to unravel. It begins by him finding Mehreen's medals and paintings which he thought were Mashal's as Mashal had claimed they were hers before her death. He finds Mehreen's journals and finds out that he had been accusing the wrong person all this while.

The blunt truth comes out when the maid Shabbo reveals that it was Mashal who had planned to kill Mehreen out of pure jealousy and it was her who had gone rogue. If not for Shabbo it would have been Mehreen who would be dead. That night Shabbo had placed the sleeping pills in the wrong cup of tea which lead to Mashal's death instead of Mehreen's. Hearing and seeing the whole truth, leaves Aswad devastated and guilty for his misdeeds. He rushes to the hospital to find Mehreen in denial and asking for a divorce desperately. He calms her down and asks for forgiveness and the truth from her willing to listen to whatever she has to say.

She provides further details about that night saying that Mashal and she herself had talked and come to an agreement about the situation and were willing to forgive each other after listening to each other's story blaming the elders for what they had become. However, as planed when the poisoned tea arrived, Mashal had snatched the cup from the hands of Mehreen telling her of the plan and admitting her guilt. However, she had not known that the danger was not in the cup of Mehreen but in her own which had ultimately led to her death. Shocked by this, Aswad asks for forgiveness repetitively and promises to love her as he did in his childhood. After much consolation and consideration, Mehreen forgives and accepts him just like she forgave Mashal.
