Bakhtiyar Khan / Agha Jan (Abid Ali) and his family were the main characters in the serial. Agha Jan's family split up many years ago because of the rebellious term of his son Behroze Bakhtiyar Khan (Mekal Zulfiqar), who refused to marry his father's choice (and his paternal cousin) Arjumand Bedar Khan (Hareem Farooq) and married Ruhina Arsalan (Sanam Saeed). Behroze left his house after being disowned by his father to marry Ruhina.

At the same time, Arjumand was forced to marry Behroze's younger brother, Suhaib (Ali Rehman Khan). When Behroze returned to apologize to Agha Jan after his marriage, Behroze, and his wife were insulted and banished for life. This situation turned them against Agha Jan and Sohaib. The two couples dealt with many marriage issues, including finances for Behroze and Ruhi and emotional disconnect for Sohaib and Arjumand.
