Bakhtawar is a Pakistani drama series in Urdu. It aired on Hum TV from July 17, 2022, to January 29, 2023. Its episodes are also available on YouTube. Actress Yumna Zaidi played the titular role of Bakhtawar in the series. The series loosely depicts the real-life story of a woman named Farheen Ishtiaq Naqvi, who lives in Lahore and pretends to be a man for many years to feed her daughter. She also owns a shop in Anarkali market.
Bakhtawar is a strong-minded poor girl living with her family of five- a father, a mother, a disabled brother, and an elder sister. Her father is a gambler who married his elder daughter forcefully and left the house. Her brother died due to poverty. After that, her uncle, Hameed, tried to get her married to his mentally challenged son forcefully. Hence, Bakhtawar escaped with her mother to Karachi and started living in Sakina’s house.Â
After being rejected from various jobs, she finally got a job as a bus conductor. However, the lustful behaviors of the male passengers and the murder of her friend made it impossible for her to continue. So, Bakhtawar resigned and became jobless. At home, she heard the discussion of Sakina and her husband. They planned to sell them to Hameed because Bakhtawar could not pay the house rent. Listening to everything, Bakhtawar leaves the house and rents a room from a shady man, Haji Nazar.
He lives with his wife and is skeptical about women’s freedom. Later, Bakhtawar had to disguise himself as a boy to get a new job. She started working as a waiter at a restaurant. There, she witnessed someone getting shot and stayed behind to help him with the injury. After that, the man hires Bakhtawar, in the guise of a boy, to work for him. From here on, her life takes a new turn for good.
