The most beautiful part is that the haveli is under the control of a strong woman- Khameera Illahi. Khameera is a woman, as tough as a rock, especially when it comes to making decisions for them. Her husband, Muzaffar cheats on her repeatedly. The man has no shame and openly visits the brothel daily. He even brings his son, Israr, from another woman, into the haveli. From this very initial setting, we see the complications in the lives of the family members. The drama, nevertheless, isn’t limited to just one generation.

Khameera and Muzaffar have five kids of their own, three sons and two daughters.Salma (Sonya Hussyn) one of their daughters, has fallen unabashedly, in love with Subhan (Ahsan Khan), a servant of the house. Due to their caste and class differences, their further relationship is denied. Subhan runs away with Salma. They give birth to Safder. Salma dies soon, and Subhan being a cruel father, leaves his son to the haveli. Mazhar, Salma’s brother, takes responsibility for Safder, the abandoned son, and his sister Najma.

Mazhar is employed by the British but says bad things about them throughout. Their family keeps shifting frequently. His two daughters Aaliya and Tehmina, are all grown up now. Tehmina and Safder share an intimate relationship and wish to marry which Mazhar opposes. So, she is married off to Jameel. Tehmina eventually commits suicide. Safder on the other hand, does nothing to save his relationship and leaves a letter for Tehmina and goes away. Now Mazhar gets arrested and the family, which consists of Aaliya and Muzaffar moves back to Haveli.

We also get a glance at the character of Kusum. Kusum loves Mohan, who betrays her. Looking at all of these dismantled love stories, Aaliya loses all hope of love until she starts developing feelings for Jameel. The show, in a nutshell, focuses on the cruelties of people and their perfidiousness. Aangan can be translated as ‘a courtyard’. The title of the story makes it all the more meaningful as almost all women in the show, suffer at the hands of men, who walk in and out of the ‘angan’ as they please.
