King Maker Story of Kamaraja is a daily drama series that came on the Youtube channel. It is a Tamil language show and came on between Monday and Friday. The program tracks the life of Kumarasami Kamaraj, who was one of the leaders of the Indian National Congress. He had earned the moniker of “Kingmaker” owing to his work in the Indian political scenario during the 1960s.

The role of this charismatic leader got played on screen by Richard Mathur. He brought a finesse into the role and successfully played this character. He also shares a striking resemblance to the late leader and has beautifully embodied the small details which were characteristic to Kamaraj. This is also a testament to the depth of research of the serial and the depth they have delved into. Kumarasami Kamaraj was better known during his life as K. Kamaraj.

He became an active leader of the INC and grew to great fame in the 1960s. He also served in the capacity of the President of the party for a duration of four years between the years of 1964 and 1967. He played a key role in elevating Lal Bahadur Shastri and helping him become the Prime Minister of our country after Indira Gandhi declined the offer following the death of her father, Jawaharlal Nehru. Kamaraj then went on to serve Tamil Nadu as their Chief Minister between the years of 1954 and 1963. He also got elected as a Member of the Parliament between the years of 1952 to 1954 and once more between 1967 and 1975. He gained immense popularity amidst the people owing to his simple nature and the integrity he portrayed in all walks of life.

In his early years he worked at his uncle's shop, and whenever he got some time, he began joining the processions along with attending the public meetings. Kamaraj also played an important role during the India’s struggle for independence. During his tenure as the President of the Congress, he played an instrumental role in navigating the party’s affairs following the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru. In his home state of Tamil Nadu, he gets fondly remembered for bringing basic school education to the many millions living in the rural regions.

To do this, he introduced free education along with the midday meal scheme which he provided free of cost. He even got awarded with the highest civilian honor in India, the Bharat Ratna. This got awarded to him posthumously in the year of 1976.
