Palampur Express was based on the life of a young, 18-year-old woman called Paavni Dixit. She lives with her father and grandmother in a small town called Palampur, hence the name Palampur Express. Paavni dreams of getting a career in sports, in the field of athletics. She wants to go to the Olympic Games and represent India in running. Paavni also has a love interest in the form of her childhood friend, Dhruv, who is played by Ajay Singh Chaudhary. Paavni has to deal with her grandmother’s disapproval of her participation in any sporting activity, which stems from her traditional attitude about the role of women in society.
Palampur Express was axed the same year it was started since it did not strike a chord with audiences. The series had a good concept, but it only appealed to a few people and hence had low ratings. The departure of the lead star from the show only heightened the disapproval of the audience.
