It is one amongst the many popular game shows in the United States. It is not just any normal game show where the contestant answers correctly, wins money and leaves the show. In fact, he has to compete with 100 other people to win the prize money. “1 v/s 100” is such a popular show that the production houses from the other countries adopted it too. Currently, it is running successfully in about 30 other countries ranging from Brazil to the United Kingdom and Taiwan.
The basic format of the show remains same all around the globe; it’s just the language of communication that changes. It is a show where “THE ONE,” our main contestant has to answer the question put up before him accurately or else he gets disqualified and is left with no price money in his bank account. He competes with “THE 100” other people called the mob. He has to keep answering the questions correctly until all the members of the mob get eliminated. The ONE is chosen either from the mob, or separate contestant is brought in.
A question is put up by the host which is initially answered by the mob before the contestant tells his answer. The mob is given a limited time slot of 15 seconds within which each member has to lock their answers, and these answers are kept hidden from the contestant. Then, THE ONE reveals his answer to the given question. If the answer is correct, all the members of the mob with incorrect answers are eliminated and if the answer is not accurate, the contestant himself his eliminated. In certain versions of the show, the question is accompanied by three options and the contestants just have to choose the correct one, but in the U.S.A version of the show, the contestants are provided just with the question.
The format, however, offers a few lifelines and dodges. In the case of dodges, the contestant chooses not to answer the particular question, as a result of which a certain amount of his winning money is reduced. The show also provides three lifelines called the helpss. Under the first, one the contestant selects one of the three options and the answers frequency of the 100 having the same answer is shown. Under the second help, two members are randomly selected from the mob, one of them has the correct option and the other has the incorrect option. Both present their views on their choice and hence, the contestants gets an idea of the answer. Under the third, the most popular option of the mob becomes the contestant’s answer as well. It is an interesting show which definitely worth watching.
