The Stardust Awards were started in 2003. It is a Hindi award show honouring the Bollywood movies produced during the particular calendar year. The celebrity magazine Stardust has been sponsoring the event. In its fifth instalment in 2008, twenty-five awards were given to the people related to the Film industry. Krishna Beura was adjudged to be a new musical sensation. Kareena Kapoor was the star of the year for her role in the hit movie, Jab We Met. Shreyas Talpade was the breakout star of the year for playing the role of Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om.

Arjun Rampal accepted an award for Best Actor in a negative role in Om Shanti Om. Irrfan Khan dazzled everyone in The Namesake, and he got an award for the best supporting actor. Sumedh Hambarde received a special prize, the Stardust Lifetime Achievement Award. Sandeep Nath was the standout lyricist. Anushka Manchanda was the new female music sensation. Kangana Ranaut had the Breakthrough performance of the year. Anil Kapoor was the hottest young producer. Monty Sharma accepted an award for the standout music director for the movie Saawariya.

Vivek Oberoi’s role in Shootout At Lokhandwala was the standout performance of the year. Sonam Kapoor’s role in Saawariya made her the female superstar of tomorrow. Akshay Kumar was the star of the year because of his role in the romantic flick Namaste London. Salim Merchant was the new male music sensation. Ranbir Kapoor’s role in Saawariya made him the male superstar of tomorrow. Dharmendra got a special award, The Stardust Actor Par Excellence Award. Tisca Chopra was the best supporting actress. Shimit Amin was adjudged to be the hottest new filmmaker in the town.

The movie Jab We Met was decided to be the best feature film of the calendar year. Shahid Kapoor was Editor’s Choice best actor. Farah Khan was dream director for directing Om Shanti Om. Shilpa Shukla got the New Menace Award. Stardust Awards are the second most significant awards in the Hindi film industry, with Film fare awards being the most important. In recent years, the award show has received criticism from the viewers, with many of them criticizing it for giving awards to people who are less worthy of it. It seems they were handing out awards on the basis of reputation instead of their performance.
