Plot
Karthik Babu is an entitled brat who has just returned to India. However, he returns at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has set its foot as well, with cases on the rise. Following the advice of his father, Karthik opts to stay in a distant villa with his girlfriend Kushita during the entire lockdown period. However, they are taken hostage by a laborer, Sombabu. Who is Sombabu, and what does he want?
Star Performance
For a movie like this, Laxman Verma MLR has done some good research. Integrating a dark comedy with a sensitive issue like the COVID-19 pandemic is not an easy job, but as writer, director, as well as one of the actors, he is the star performer of this film.
Analysis
‘Babu No 1 Bullshit Guy’ is a unique comedy. It talks about the class system, and it covers the situation during the lockdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, all under the umbrella of a dark comedy.
Written, directed [and acted by] Laxman Verma MLR, ‘Babu No 1 Bullshit Guy’ is surprisingly entertaining, as well as endearing. The narrative takes time to build, but the film is far from boring. With multiple responsibilities at hand, Laxman Verma MLR does a really good job of handling them.
The acting performances are also equally good. At times, the narrative does feel loud and over the top, but not outlandish or boring in any way. The chemistry between Arjun and Kushita has been used well by the makers. However, it is the performance of Laxman Verma MLR that outshines them, making his presence felt throughout the movie. Even the other supporting actors do a decent job.
The movie is not completely a masterpiece. The runtime is slick, not amounting to more than 2 hours 10 minutes. However, there are several scenes, that somehow don’t suit the narrative. Some of the emotional sequences seem unintentionally funny. While they are not much in amount, they are very much noticeable.

‘Babu No 1 Bullshit Guy’ is a dramedy that has a unique concept, and is equally good in terms of execution. Laxman Verma MLR comes out as the rare allrounder, who is the ‘JACK OF ALL TRADES’, as well as the master of them all. The movie is not completely flawless, but in terms of a unique story, Laxman Verma MLR delivers a winner. You should watch this movie if you haven’t by now. Â
