Plot

Mathimaaran is an investigative journalist. Maaran loses his parents in a tragedy at a very young age, and he is the only caretaker for his younger sister. While growing, his mind yearns to become an honest journalist like his father. Maaran investigates the politicians and biggies and reveals about them. Due to this, he earns a lot of enemies. As usual, he explores a politician, who is involved in a scam, who in turn challenges Maaran. What happens to Maaran? Will he overcome the troubles? The rest of the film deals with it.

Star Performance

Dhanush looks cool as usual. His casual performance and stunt sequences are impressive. Smruthi excels in her role. Samuthirakani has done a job like that in Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo. Malavika Mohanan didn't have any significant role, yet she did her part well as asked.

Analysis

When it was announced that Karthick Naren directs a film with Dhanush, many expected it to be like his previous films, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru and "Mafia." But, Maaran comes with a usual hero-oriented film with the brother-sister sentiment, revenge, a political fight, etc. Though these are not new for an action hero, the combination of Dhanush and Karthick Naren doesn't deserve a simple story like this. The movie starts on a slow note and picks up its pace an hour later. Though Dhanush comes with all the elements his fans love, the story matters. Malavika Mohanan hadn't yet got a good role in Kollywood. Smruthi's performance is laudable. The scenes towards the climax are good. The BGM is neat, and the cinematography is perfect.

Verdict

As it is Dhanush and Karthick Naren's combo, the audience expected a different script in Maaran. If we leave the expectations out and watch the film, it is definitely a good entertainer!
