You will expect that there is something alluring in this film, with such a confident feel in the title. But Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum is just a mediocre short flick.
Plot: Having a coveted job in NFDC, Krishnadas doesn’t spend much time with his wife and daughter. He returns to his home country after a long time with idea of film making. Gayathri, his wife, is shocked to know about this since she had planned to ask Das to discourage their daughter Pinky from getting into film industry. And the film records the struggles of Menon in his dream of directing a film.
At a juncture you get a feel that you are getting a deep peak into the personal life of a movie star. Then suddenly it changes into a family affair. The award system is also talked about in the film. There is lot of cliché in this film and one should be really patient to go through this. The scenes in the film look unrealistic. Most portions of the film are spent on awards and it gives a weird picture. The director is still complacent with the 80s and hasn’t risen to the current generation. There is no realism in the dialogues. The director has taken the elements from his flicks which he made in his zenith of his career. The film tends to sermonize at times. Sometimes you get the effect of a TV serial. Screenplay is weak and the music by Menon himself has nothing to talk about.
Menon’s performance is quite ok. Praveena, who dubbed for Gayathri, should be given special mention since her voice modulation is good. Dakshina, who debuts in this film, is full of verve, but what can she do to savor the film, thanks to Menon’s weighty dialogues? Raveendran, Shankar and Menaka Suresh are ok.
The sequence of the director confessing as to why he was forced to helm direction is one of the few saving graces of the film. The manner in which this flick is presented is below excellence.
The film has gone astray and you wonder whether it is really a Balachandran Menon venture. He could have very well come up with a good venture after a sabbatical of nearly 7 years.
Well, you would have expected justice from this Balachandran Menon flick, but this only disappoints you.
Verdict: Family audience once enjoyed Menon’s films but they cannot expect the same from this film.Â
