Plot
Pallavi and Spoorthi are friends. Pallavi faces gender discrimination at her house, and hence, she wishes to be a boy. Spoorthi’s parents are doctors. During her holidays, her parents send her to a village. Spoorthi meets Lakshmi and her pregnant mother, Savithri. Thayavva is a local midwife in the village. Spoorthi finds the issues faced by girls since childhood. Right from female infanticide to education denial, the women are labelled as unlucky, though the one who gives birth is also a woman.
Star Performance
The performances are decent, and nothing to pinpoint as a significant minus.
Analysis
Two major stories are discussed in this film; one is Lakshmi and the other is Pallavi. The grandmothers in both families are the oppressors. Though the intention and message is good, they didn’t make it clear. When the oppressors are shown as women, the intention suffers a backlash. Besides this, the makers failed to show who is accountable for all this discrimination and what the consequences of this discrimination are. Though Spoorthi is brought up by her educated parents, her story, too, showcases some gender inequality. Spoorthi’s mother is also a doctor, and she is the one who works again at home after discharging her professional duties. At least Spoorthi’s family should’ve been shown as an unbiased family. The film boldly addresses the key issues, especially in the family. When a family is corrected, then society will get corrected automatically. This may be their point, but they didn’t make it stronger. The storytelling might have been better with a tighter screenplay and dialogue. The visuals and music are decent. The folk songs blend well with the story.

Verdict
Despite the flaws, the makers should be appreciated for taking a bold concept. The film addresses a sensible topic and showcases the pain. If the screenplay and narration had been better, it would’ve been good.
