Does self-propaganda have any effect on a commercial level? Just ponder over this and then watch MSG The Messenger movie. Here is the “too-good-for-words” leader who will do anything for his society. But it should be acceptable.
Plot: The film starts with a massive introduction to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan. He is touted to be the messenger of God. He is shown doing stupendous acts with supernatural powers. To add fuel to fire the background music is Msg,…msg….This Guruji believes in taking even the worst with love, which is indeed a respectable virtue. But wait…self-propaganda may sometimes have counter effect. This Guruji does many astonishing deeds like breaking the arrow just with his finger, inculcate the necessity of love to a policeman, and help in the delivery of a conceived lady. This Guruji, with hairy arms, does many such things, and you will atleast stay tuned in the theatre with the curiosity of what all “great acts” he does on screen. No careful planning is done for the sketching of the characters. Gurmeet Ram Singh is dominating the film and others just take a back seat. Don’t miss the dog in the film, which is the greatest solace. An advertisement is considered to promote its brand and this film is like a 2 and a half hours long advertisement, propagating Guruji.
Good music is the backbone of any advertisement and this film indeed lack that. CGI effects of this film will surely capture the susceptible minds and not the alert ones. The cannibals who were at their violent best before the entry of Guruji are cured by the love of the latter. Acceptable. But the Guruji, who once preaches that hatred can be handled only by love is shown beating evil men in the next scene. Doesn’t his statement prove self-contradictory? The film overtly emphasizes on the goodness that the Guruji had showed to the society.
Verdict: One wonders why too much money is expended on this propaganda flick.
