Plot

John and Summer from the US visit India to get a surrogate mother. They meet Mimi, a dancer who aspires to do big in Bollywood. The US couple wanted her to be the surrogate mother. Bhanu is a local driver, and they convince him to get Mimi for them, and they promised to pay Rs 20 lakh. Initially, Mimi hesitates but then agrees to their deal. As Mimi’s parents will not allow this, she lied to them that she would be in Mumbai to shoot a Bollywood film for the next 9 months. She stays with her friend Shama. In the checkup, it is revealed that the yet-to-be-born child has Down syndrome. Shocked by this, John and Summer told about this to Bhanu and asked Mimi to abort the child and move back to the US. But, Mimi didn’t want to abort the child and decides to carry the child. Mimi goes back home and tells her parents about this. Finally, they accept her, and after delivering the child, they come to know that the earlier report about the child was false. They name him Raj and Mimi, and her parents are much affectionate towards him. After a few years, John and Summer revisit India and claim that Raj is their child. Mimi’s parents are ready to fight them back, even though they show the legal documents signed by Mimi. What is Mimi’s response? What will Raj do? The rest of the story deals with it.

Star Performance

Kriti is so natural and has done a fantastic job. Pankaj Tripathi did his part well, as usual. His body language and dialogue delivery are extraordinary. Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak had done justice to the given roles. Evelyn Edwards and Aidan Whytock had done a decent job.

Analysis

The script is a bit different. The screenplay had no dull moments, and the story moves on a perfect flow. The stars are picked up well, and they are placed in the right roles. The characters are penned neatly, and there are no unnecessary hypes to the characters. Although we had watched the motherhood and sentimental scenes umpteen times, they are not boring. The production value is good. The BGM and cinematography are perfect. Editing is neat.

What’s There?

  • Different story and direction
  • Performance of the stars is good

What’s Not There?

  • Except for a few minor flaws, nothing is negative

Verdict

Mimi is a complete entertainer with beautiful performances and sentiments. The director made the film engagingly with some good performers. Mimi – watchable once!
