Plot
Karsandas Mulji is a Gujarati journalist who fights for women’s rights. He stands against the religious leader Jadunath Maharaj, alias JJ, who had been exploiting his female devotees sexually in the name of Charan Seva. This comes to Karsandas’ view after his fiancée Kishori becomes one of the victims. After that, he decides to tear the JJ’s mask and show his true colors. He writes in the newspaper named Satyaprakash. He also drags the husbands and fathers of victims, who send them voluntarily to JJ, thinking of it as a service. Following his write-up, JJ files a defamation case against Karsandas. What happened next forms the rest of the story.
Star Performance
Junaid Khan looks neat in the role. His dialogue delivery is impressive, especially in the courtroom scene. Shalini Pandey didn’t have many scenes, yet she excelled in her part well. Sharvari is also good with her performance. In one particular scene, where she breaks down and say how she was forced by her parents to do the charan seva, her performance is excellent. Jaideep Ahlawat’s eye expressions and body language are good. Though he has a few dialogues, his performance in the negative role gains appreciation. However, this was not his best performance and he had delivered excellent performances in his previous films.
Analysis
The story is strong, but the narration lacks some depth. The screenplay didn’t have gripping scenes. However, the climax portion was shot well with Jadunath and Karsan and the background voice that speaks about the relationship between God and devotees. The visuals and editing are neat. The BGM is decent. Jaideep should have been used better with some strong sequences.
