Plot
The film follows Danielle Moonstar, played by Blu Hunt, as she is hidden in a tree by her father as their tribe is devastated by a strange tornado. When Danielle wakes up, she finds herself in a hospital. Here she meets Dr. Cecilia Reyes, played by Alice Braga, who tells Danielle that she is a mutant and thus she should stay under her care till she can control her powers. Reyes introduces her to others like her staying in the institution- Samuel Guthrie, played by Charlie Heaton, Illyana Rasputin, played by Anna Taylor-Joy, Roberto da Costa, played by Henry Zaga, and Rahne Sinclair, played by Maisie Williams. All of them are mutants with distinct powers. They live in Reyes’s institution thinking that they are being trained to join the X-Men, but after Danielle’s arrival, strange things happen and they are haunted by their fears. The film follows the group as they try to ascertain the cause of their nightmares, and uncover the truth about the institution.
Star Performance
The cast could have given better performances. Anna Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, and Charlie Heaton seem to be limited by the crude script.
Analysis
The film had great potential but does not live up to it. The cast is great but the performances are mediocre because the characters are under-developed. The storyline is also not very entertaining.
