Plot 

The film was set in a world where Puppets and humans live together but humans do not view puppets as their equals. The film’s protagonists are the puppet Phil, operated by Bill Barretta, and Connie Edwards, played by Melissa McCarthy. They used to be partners in the police force but after Phil accidentally shot and killed a puppet, he was fired from his job and they drifted apart. Phil now worked as a private investigator that is hired by a puppet named Sandra to find her blackmailer. While he was investigating the matter in a shop’s back room, everyone present in the shop is killed. When the Police arrived, he met his former partner Connie Edwards. When Phil’s brother is also killed, he discovers that the actors of a show called The Happytime Gang are being killed. Phil and Connie partner up to find the killer. The film follows Phil and Connie as they try to find the killer before more innocent lives are lost.    

Star Performance

Melissa McCarthy gave a good performance and had great comedic timing. The puppeteers delivered an exceptional performance.   

Analysis 

The film feels like an adult version of “ Sesame Street Sesame Street is a preschool educational TV show t >> Read More... ”. The film has good humor and maintains the thriller element well.

• The film has a murder mystery and thriller plot

• The puppeteers performs exceptionally well

What’s Not There?

• The plot is predictable and slightly boring

• The film is not suitable for family viewing as it contains crude and sexual language and drug usage 

Verdict

Although “The Happytime Murders” is boring and predictable as a thriller movie, it can be watched as a mindless comedy. So, this film might be a good watch for comedy enthusiasts,
