Tangled is the animated, adventurous, comedy movie produced by Disney pictures.

PLOT

Tangled is based on the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale ‘Rapunzel’. It is a story about a princess Rapunzel, who gets kidnapped by Mother Gothel, a sneaky old crone needs Rapunzel's hair to stay young and alive.

The Queen ate the special flower during pregnancy and because of that Rapunzel gets magical and ever-growing hair with the power to heal and rejuvenate. Rapunzel is hidden in a tower and wishes to see beautiful stars that light up in the sky on her birthday every year.

Flynn Ryder, a dashing thief, discovers the hidden tower, Rapunzel keeps him twisted in her long hair until he promises to take her to see lanterns till her Mother Gothel returns from a three-day errand. In exchange, she agrees to return the jeweled crown that he stole. The adventurous journey starts from here following music, songs, fights and romance.

ANALYSIS

Most of Disney movies are targeted towards children. But as a matter of fact, because it’s a children’s film parents go with them and try to avoid to show bad things to them. This film is not the typical princess-prince story.

It’s about a kidnapped girl and a thief’s love story as well as reunion of a girl with her parents, who are King-queen. Most of the characters are predictable and similar to other films like girly-girl who discovers her identity as a princess later and falls in love with a thief, who is adventurous and funny.

The character of the witch is interesting. She kidnaps infant and dominates her mind all her life with love makes her believe that outside world is not safe. This witch is not having any magical power but still dangerous.

There are other funny and fresh characters like a loyal horse that resembles a character from Looney Tunes and Pascal, a chameleon who is always behind Rapunzel to guide.

STAR PERFORMANCES

Mother Gothel, voiced by Donna Murphy is unforgettable. She is an immensely manipulative witch with no magical power and a strong singing voice.

The performance of former pop star turned actress Mandy Moore, and Zachary Levi as Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder are energetic, funny and natural.

WHAT’S THERE?

Traditional romance but with commercial twist Old fashioned songs, music.

WHAT’S NOT THERE?

Adapted from the Brothers Grimm’s story ‘Rapunzel’, which is full of horrific incidents but in this film, they have refined it and made it for children. As compare to other Disney movies in recent years, the animation is not advanced in this one.

VERDICT

Tangled is a warm, funny, confident, effortless animated film, unlike other Disney’s princesses’ tales. As we say, ‘old wine in new bottle,' this film is like that. Entertaining for all age group audience. It is conveying an important message to the audience - to dream, dare and believe in it and see how life changes after that.
