Plot 

The film’s protagonist is Joe Gardner, played by Jamie Foxx, a pianist who teaches at a school part-time. When he was offered to become a full-time teacher at the school, his mother encourages him to accept the offer but he is reluctant to do so because he wants to play jazz professionally. When he gets the chance to play with a famous Jazz musician, he is elated and thus, on his way home falls into an open manhole. Joe gains consciousness to find his soul going towards the ‘great beyond’; he tries to escape and mistakenly ends up in the ‘great before’ where new souls are prepared for life on Earth. The new souls are guided by counselors named ‘ Jerry Bio coming soon... >> Read More... ’, and by mentored by experienced old souls. Joe is mistaken as a mentor and is assigned to a new soul named ‘22’, voiced by Tina Fey, who is stubborn and has not left the ‘great before’ for thousands of years. The film follows Joe and 22 as Joe helps 22 find the spark of her life so that he can return to Earth. 

Star Performance

All the voice actors performed exceptionally well. They perfectly capture their characters quirks and emotions.  

Analysis 

The film describes the afterlife in a light but firm tone. The film sends the message that we should go with the flow and strive to find happiness in our daily life.

“Soul” would be a good watch for family, drama, adventure, and animation enthusiasts. The film would be enjoyable for children but would also be relatable foe many adults who are struggling in their hectic lives.
