Analysis
Although the goal of bringing internet culture to traditional media seems intriguing, the film was mostly panned by critics who pointed out its poor plot, lack of creativity, and inability to convey the core elements that made the Slender Man concept frightening. While the visuals were impressive and exciting, one big flaw was the final reveal of Slender Man’s motivations, which is what he does with his victims. By providing a subpar form of closure, the viewers’ fear of the unknown is taken away. The disturbing case of a stabbing that happened in 2014 for the same internet phenomenon had to be taken into awareness by the filmmakers. Still, the original idea of Slender Man was almost entirely toned down by the visual adaptation. The story here seeks to build something that isn’t wholly terrible or amazing by combining elements from various horror movies. This film serves as a decent/mild starter to the horror genre.

Verdict
The movie depends more on atmosphere and psychological terror than on jump scares, yet some people question whether it succeeds in evoking genuine fear. Because of the relatively moderate representation of the disturbing creature, it is an easy viewing for those new to horror films.
