), it's a chance for Ben to show he's capable of being a tough guy. It's a chance for James to ridicule Ben yet again. Will he be successful in bumping off the rookie or will Ben still be able to do the one thing he enjoys with his “Brother-in-law”, Ride Along.
Analysis
Ride Along 2 Follows the same old routine that it did in the first 2014 blockbuster, Ride Along. Ben trying to prove himself, screwing up, James hating him, etc. Moderate twitches like Ben becoming a rookie cop and his marriage with James’ sister does not justify the lack of innovation and energy in this 101-minute script. Ice cube and Kevin Hart desperately try to save the movie and its loose scripting not to mention, additions like Ken Jeong and Olivia Munn. While people aren’t deprived of laughter, it’s the same things you’ll be laughing at again. The Audience might not find it living up their expectations, but will be pleased with the movie overall.
Star Performances
Ice cube enjoys portraying the bad ass cop image, from throwing attitude to menacing glares at his co-star you see cube enjoying himself and breathe life into the character. Kevin Hart, desperately tries to rejuvenate the film with his comic timing and jocular acting, no script can prevent him from delivering his share of laughs. Ken Jeong and Olivia Munn are interesting additions to the movie, but take a backseat while the Cube-Hart take control.
What’s there?
1. Stylish effects and impressive action and stunts. Noteworthy is the scene where Ben imagines a car chase in the form of GTA with James too in the form of a pixilated character, funny and innovative.
2. Kevin Hart and Ice Cube with their comic timing.
3. An appreciative, decent sense of humour (Already seen before, but At least it’s not lame!)
What’s not there?
1. Olivia Munn can be funny (“The Daily Show”,etc) However, This tough Miami detective seems to have importance for only one thing in this film, cleavage . They could have done so much more with her role.
2. Tim Story seems to direct as if he’s painting by the numbers, putting pressure on the comedy that the film has to offer and the actors.
3. Innovation in screenwriting.
Verdict
Overall, Ride Along 2 provides you with cinema, though repetitive can lift up the spirits of a weary soul. If you have nothing to do or are in the mood of watching something just for the sake of laughing then Ride Along 2 should be on your checklist.
