The movie Princess Kaiulani hit the silver screens in 2009. The movie revolves around the life of Princess Kaiulani who ruled the Hawaiian Kingdom during the latter half of the Nineteenth Century. The wonderful epic throws light on the days before Hawaiian Independence. Princess Kaiulani, as one single woman, dominated the entire nation of Hawaii and got freedom for the country from clutches of American colonization. The movie is based on true events that occurred in the life of Kaiulani, the daughter of the princess of Hawaii. Her father was a Scottish business person.

Plot: The plot revolves around Princess Kaiulani. Her Scottish father senses an impending revolution in Hawaii and sends her to England for studies. Following the death of Hawaiian king who is her uncle, Kaiulani is the heiress to the kingdom. A danger is lurking around the corner in the form of American colonization. Her people face the heat, and Kaiulani has to come to their aid. She romances Clive Davis in England, but home compels her to be back.

There is no doubt that the movie boasts about the life of Kaiulani. The movie should have steered clear of the stereotypes of a stale biopic. But, in the attempt, the movie has miserably failed. The princess faces a lot of insults in England as she does not fit into the groove. The princess develops a bond with the son and daughter of her guardian in England. The princess is so devoted to her country that she sacrifices her romance to fight for her country’s freedom. Q’orianka Kiclher has done the role of the Hawaiian princess. Kilcher is an actress with fine potential in her. She looks beautiful in the costumes and reminds us of the real princess. The movie does not reveal much about the princess of historical prominence. Many of the audiences would have dozed off half way through the movie.

Verdict: The movie Princess Kaiulani does not suffice for a weekend entertainment. A better way to spend the weekend is to have good nap at home.
