Plot: while roaming the streets of Persia, King of Persia comes across a brave boy Dastaan, who impresses the king with his courageous attitude, realizing that he is orphan he adopts Dastaan and takes him to his palace. Fast forward few years and we come across Nizam(Ben Kingsley) who has discovered that Alamut a holy city of Persia have been importing weapons so as to wage a war against them, The eldest son of the king of Persia Tus asks for the company Dastaan(Jake Gyllenhaal) and Garsiv to resolve the issue, while Garsiv agrees to attack Alamut but Dastaan resists which is soon sidelined by Nizam’s convincing talks. Later, Dastaan even after being ordered not attack first disobeys and destroys Alamut, while fighting he discovers a mysterious dagger and keep it with him.

While Alamut falls to its doom, Princess Tamina (Gemma) takes on Tus head on but after seeing the mysterious dagger in the possession of Dastaan reluctantly agrees with Tus to be with him. Tus congratulated Dastaan even after he disobeys him and asks him to gift his father the praying robes he bought for him. Later, as Dastaan makes the King wear his clothes, he is burnt with the poison laced in the robe and dies. Dastaan is taken for the one responsible for King’s death and people turn over him, but Dastaan escapes vowing to prove himself innocent.

Tus is crowned King of Persia who orders Dastaan to be executed as soon as he is found. Meanwhile, Dastaan along with Tamina wander in the desert; Tamina tries to seduce him in order to gain the dagger but in doing she lets Dastaan discover the real truth behind the dagger, the dagger grants its owner the power to go back in time and alter the past so as to change the present. When Dastaan asks more about the dagger from Tamina, she refuses to reveal any further information.

Later, Dastaan comes to know that his uncle was the one behind the murder of his father, the King and that he wants to alter the past so that he may be the King and not his father after Tamina reveals to him the entire truth of the dagger. Dastaan makes up his mind to help the Princess as they both develop feelings for each other. Rest of the story is how Dastaan saves the entire world from being destroyed by the evil Nizam and happily reconcile with his brothers and Tamina.

Analysis: This movie is action-packed, and those of you who have played the game of the same name would definitely want to watch this movie. To top it up, there is Jake who looks like he was made for this role and the same can be said for Gemma who looks stunningly beautiful as a Princess. The concept is based on the video game and has done justice to it to some extent. And yes, the screenplay along with the cinematography is explosive enough to make you sit for one and half hour.

Star Performances: Jake delivers his finest performance and looks super-convincing as a Prince while you would not be able to your eyes off Gemma, who has brilliantly acted the role of Princess and of course who can forget Ben Kingsley, who has raised the antagonism bar in this movie.

What's There? • Explosive action and a nice plot. • Nice screenplay. • Top acts from the main actors.

What's Not There? • Some original concept from the main video game story is missing which could have been a bar raiser for this movie. • Conclusion could have been a little stretched.

Verdict: I have played the game and to say that some of the stories matches with it, but not all and that should not woo the fans of the video game. Instead, it must be seen as a potential gap left for a possible sequel. Enough said this movie is a one-time watch for the regular viewers and for the franchise fans you know what I would say.
