Plot:
Keanu narrates the tale of a cat which goes missing and Rell’s (Peele) and Clarence’s attempts to rescue it. The cat Keanu, who originally belonged to a drug lord finds itself at Rell’s doorstep following an encounter at the drug lord’s home. Rell and his cousin Clarence take a liking to the cat and enjoy taking care of it. However, their good fortunes go awry when a local gang ransacks Rell’s house and takes the cat away. The film sets into a mixture of comedy and action from here, as Rell and Clarence dress up as gangsters to find their beloved cat.
Analysis:
The movie is an entertaining watch and keeps the audience engaged with light-hearted action-comedy. However, at many points, the narration is stretched and lagging. The movie is a spoof of action films and has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The plot, however, is quite clichéd. While a good part of the attempted humour in the movie falls flat, the witty banter that takes place between the two cousins is thoroughly entertaining. The infusion of action, drama, and comedy has also fared well.
Star Performances:
Peele and Keegan showcase a commendable performance in the film. The two are already experienced in the field of small screen comedy and the humorous sequences, hence flow effortlessly. The villains and drug lords in the movie fare well. What’s there?
1. Most of the attempts at humour strike the target audience effectively. 2. The action sequences have been effectively executed with an infusion of comedy. 3. Keanu, the cat, is extremely adorable and makes a significant impact on the audience.
What’s not there?
1. The plot is not engaging and solid enough for a 100-minute narrative.
2. The cat has barely 25 minutes screen time in the movie.
3. The movie attempts to make a mockery of action-thrillers, but more often than not, falls into the same category.
Verdict:
Keanu is not a must-watch movie. However, if you are bored and are in a mood for light-hearted comedy and some cute kitten moments, then give the movie a shot. It’s definitely not disappointing.
