The American movie John Dies at the End hit screens in 2012. The movie is sheer fantasy and a sci-fi horror movie. Direction and screenplay are by Don Coscarelli. The movie is based on a novel by David Wong that has the same name. Chase Williamson and Rob Mayes do major roles in the movie.Â
The movie had mixed response from critics. The movie John Dies at the End won the name of a cult film. Every shot of a particular drug assures that the person has an out-of-body experience. Colloquially, the drug is called Soy Sauce. It gives a new experience to the user. The user finds that he is navigating in time and space. But, suddenly a bizarre truth comes to light.
Some of those who come out of the intoxication are not humans anymore. A storm is brewing with the least warning of its arrival. It is in the form of alien invasion. The human race needs a savior. But the bargain finally fetches two college dropouts unable to hold on to jobs. And, time is running out. Back in 1979, the director gave a hit movie Phantasm, which bagged the name of cult movie. And… the following sequels did not earn him much fame.Â
Movie John Dies at the End does not give the same feel as Phantasm. John Dies at the End appears degraded in quality. Some people may find the monstrous appearances frightening, and they would find it difficult to stick to their seats. In a scene, there is a narration by Dave about his experience. A doubtful reporter listens to the tale, but there are lots of unexplained things in the movie. The cinematic effects in the movie are average and appear unrealistic. Everything appears okay till a woman suddenly falls apart as a cluster of snakes. After the movie is over, some might feel like they are watching some patchwork by the director. The movie is not a serious one to ponder on, but it could prove a fine option for passing the time.
