His performance is complex, moving beyond simple imitation to convey the emotional turmoil Churchill faced in his life. Miranda Richardson plays Lady Clementine brilliantly; she serves as an emotional counterpoint to the turbulence of Churchill’s character while Slattery presents Eisenhower who adds yet another layer of military tension to all this. Analysis
Although “Churchill” does a commendable job of fusing historical drama with personal narrative, it makes some considerable changes regarding the timeline and events leading to D-Day. At times, the screenplay is melodramatic, which lessens its overall impact—engaging but overly so. Competence marks Teplitzky’s direction; visually appealing atmospheres that mirror tragedies of wars come alive in icy blue color tones on the screen. However, some parts are dragged as if Seth is pulling them. A somewhat ambient composition at some points threatens to displace conversations between characters thus diminishing their importance.
