The American remake of the French action-thriller, “District B13”, is the last film late
Paul Walker
could complete, which is an equally action-packed exciting watch as its predecessor was, where the incredibly choreographed chase scenes never seem to end.
Plot: The story is set in a very grim and futuristic Detroit, where the drug lords and crime lords have become so rampant, that the police had to wall off a certain portion of the town full of red brick buildings. In this area, the all-powerful crime lord Tremaine, who seems to have been ruling all over these government forsaken buildings. Paul Walker plays an undercover cop who comes to seek vengeance for his father’s death from Tremaine and in this path, he clashes with Lino, the highly skilled fighter who had been brought up in this area. When they both realize that they have a common enemy, they join forces to bring down the most powerful crime in a walled off dingy labyrinth.
One cannot watch this movie without thinking about the death of Paul Walker in November, the year before. With the kind of role that he plays here of a dedicated and sharp undercover cop trying to fight for justice, the kind of roles that he does the best, and the kind of situations that he puts himself through to do his duty, would pull at your heart.
David Belle
plays the same role of Lino, the one he played in the French “District B13” back in 2004 and did an amazing job at the seemingly impossible stunts and parkour, and one cannot help but be in awe of him in the intense chasing sequence with which the movie starts.
The chemistry between the two male leads is filled with some humorous dialogues and very demanding action sequences, which makes the two of them tick. There are also some clichéd elements like the unexplained power of the crime lord Tremaine and his ever-faithful wall of hunky bodyguards, and also the inclusion of the compulsory girl-on-girl fighting sequence between Lino’s girlfriend, Lola, and Tremaine’s right-hand lady, Rayzah. Overall, this is a very enjoyable watch for action lovers and most importantly the fans of Paul Walker.
Verdict: I give this last tribute to Paul Walker filled with very interesting and intense action sequences and great chemistry, 3.5 out of 5 victories.
