After finishing high school in the previous movie, Lord and Miller are back with the next 22 Jump Street, where we will see our favorite Jenko and Schmidt undercover in college, trying to bust another case, while also become more mature as partners.
Plot: With a new precinct house that looks “twice as expensive” as the last one, Officers Jenko and Schmidt find themselves working under Captain Dickson again as their next case is a bust another drug case that is circulating a local college. However, when in college, Jenko becomes very close to a quarterback and also a prime suspect in the drug case, whereas, Schmidt finds himself falling for a girl studying poetry major. In all this, they both start to question whether their relationship as partners are that strong or not, as they are seemingly drifting away from each other too soon. So, in this mission, not only do they have to bust the drug case by confronting the person who has got so close to Jenko because of the fraternity house parties and football practice, but also try to fix their relationship with each other and redefine themselves as partners.
This movie is so fully aware of the fact that it is a sequel to a very hit 21 Jump Street, that it even cracks jokes about it not being able to make the mark of its first one. Moreover, Schmidt also complains how they are being made to do the same kind of assignment like the last time. The chemistry between the Jenko and Schmidt still sparks on in this movie with an even closer relationship where they almost easily come off as a gay couple who are working hard to maintain a healthy relationship except the fact that they are straight, and they are partners. This aspect of their relationship keeps coming back as Schmidt starts feeling left out and lonely when Jenko gets friendly with the blonde quarterback, Zook. On the other hand, the other artists also make their marks in raising the bar of comedy, not to mention all the fresh new faces we see in this movie and is brightens up with their individual comic reliefs.
This movie tip-toe around the fact that almost everyone in the movie knows that this is a sequel to 21 Jump Street, and hence there will obviously be clear similarities between the two movies. In spite of that, the level of jokes and the visual comedy which can easily explain a joke without any dialogues is set pretty high up. Special mentions should be given to one of a hilarious split screen action comedy that we see here.
Verdict: To this very good comeback to an already successful movie that is a parody of too many stereotypes and also a secret array of special guest appearances, I give this movie 4 out of 5 victories.
