12 Rounds 3: Lockdown is an action American thriller directed by Stephen Reynolds and produced by Michael J. Luisi under WWE Studios and Lionsgate. It’s a sequel to the 2013 film "12 Rounds 2: Reloaded", and is the final installment in the "12 Rounds trilogy". The film stars Dean Ambrose, Roger Cross, Daniel Cudmore, Lochlyn Munro, Ty Olsson, Sarah Smyth, Rebecca Marshall, Toby Levins, and Sharon Taylor. The film was edited by Sam Bauer and the music is by Nathan Whitehead.

Plot

Tyler Burke is a bad cop and heads a group of police officers who believe that the police badge can make them bend the rules to their advantage. On the other hand is Detective John Shaw, who returns to duty after seven months following his cop partner Ray Jones' death, after recovering from this traumatic incident. Shaw is blamed by everyone for Jones' death. He finds himself trapped within his department after discovering evidence about a corrupt police force. Shaw, to solve the conspiracy and take it down, gets himself trapped in a Police Station. He must use his wits, combat skills, and all the resources available to survive the deadly game of Burke and his team, who want to shut him up permanently.

Star Performance

Dean Ambrose (John Shaw), in his debut in the leading role as a cop, does a credible job. Having a wrestling background and a wrestler’s physicality makes his actions convincing and appealing. Dean Ambrose did a great job portraying the role of a vulnerable cop who has fallen into a difficult situation. Roger Cross (Tyler Burke) delivered an exciting performance as the main antagonist. He did an extraordinary job of portraying a corrupted cop. Here, too, the film benefits from his strong presence on screen. The rest of the cast, in the supporting roles, are Daniel Cudmore, Lochlyn Munro, Ty Olsson, Sarah Smyth, Rebecca Marshall, Toby Levins, Bill Dow, Sharon Taylor, and Matthew Harrison.

Daniel Cudmore portrays Gideon, as a strong and loyal supporter of Burke. He is a very tough and straight-as-a-nail 'Enforcer’. Therefore, he is an important figure among the officials of Burke. His portrayal helps increase the intensity of the action scenes. The actors in other supporting roles also prove their mettle through various brilliant performances. Along with the lead actors and their strong performances, other cast members add their pivotal support to the movie.

Analysis

"12 Rounds 3: Lockdown" gives a thrill ride of drama along with action-packed scenes. The storyline by Stephen Reynolds revolves around the hero John Shaw's mission. It's a series of action-packed sequences. The "12 Rounds" are the 12 bullets the hero has to kill his foes. Mainly dealing with action, the movie presents a great action sequence and exciting moments. The well-choreographed fighting sequences make it an engaging and edge-of-the-seat experience for the audience. The quality of dialogue, if compared to action scenes, forms a weaker section of the film. Added to this is the film’s setting within the walls of a police station, which perfectly presents the idea of danger and thrill. The film’s pace remains fast throughout, contributing to the intensity and tension in the characters' situations. In this regard, the screenplay becomes equally effective in continuing suspense and thrill throughout the movie. The cinematography has indeed synced with the movie’s setting, especially the intense action sequences in the movie shot by Mahlon Todd Williams. Musical scores by Nathan Whitehead can be considered a crucial part of adding a fierce rhythm and energy to the film. Editing by Sam Bauer is pretty good. The actors’ performances are outstanding in portraying the characters of a thriller movie.

What’s There?

  • The film is packed with strong performances by the actors.
  • The film consists of a thrilling plot that gives the viewers an edge-of-the-seat experience.
  • The film is loaded with exciting action sequences, which look intense and engaging.
  • The cinematography and direction of the film are really good, it provides the audience with a good visual appeal.

What’s Not There?

  • The film lacks development of its supporting characters, focusing on the protagonist and the antagonist.
  • The film sometimes fails to convey the emotional struggle of the protagonist.
  • The quality of the dialogue in the film feels weaker than the well-choreographed action scenes. The dialogues sometimes lack natural flow.

Verdict

Despite various script shortcomings, "12 Rounds 3: Lockdown" is an action entertainment movie. A simple and linear plot is followed by this movie. It is a supercharged movie with a moral fight for righteousness and against corruption, which keeps the audiences thrilled and on the edge of their seats. This is a must-watch for viewers who love action-packed entertainers.
