It’s more than halfway through 2024, and sadly for Tollywood, there are very few films to be proud about.
While Bollywood is regaining momentum and dominating the Indian box office, the string of flops continue for Telugu cinema. Despite the clout and the crew, neither ‘Double iSmart’ nor ‘Mr. Bachchan’ managed to even recover their budget, let alone be a simple commercial hit.
The lone exception is ‘Committee Kurrollu’, which ironically released almost a week before the two. Despite earning just a little above 10 crores in terms of net domestic collections, the movie is a bonafide success. With almost negligible promotions, the success of this movie is a welcome surprise for many.
However, that doesn’t mean that we can turn a blind eye to the continuous failures that Tollywood is witnessing this year. Like Sandalwood and Kollywood, Tollywood has more flops than hits. The last major hit was ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, starring Prabhas in the lead role.
Apart from the above, only four films managed to emerge as commercial successes : Teja Sajja Born on 23rd August 1994, Teja Sajja aka Master Te >> Read More... starrer ‘Hanu Man’ [directed by Prasanth Varma Prasanth Varma is an Indian director who has worke >> Read More... ], Siddu Jonnalagadda’s ‘Tillu Square’ [directed by Mallik Ram Mallik Ram is an Indian director working in the Te >> Read More... ], ‘Om Bheem Bush’ [directed by Sree Harsha Konuganti Tollywood director and story writer, Harsha Konuga >> Read More... ] and ‘Gaami’ [directed by Vidyadhar Kagita Bio coming soon... >> Read More... ]. Apart from them, most of the other movies tanked at the box office. Even Mahesh Babu suffered a rare flop, when ‘Guntur Kaaram’ failed to recover even its budget, and earned just 171 crores worldwide.
