Revisiting the untold chapters of Indian history has become the new cool in Indian cinema. Following the surprise success of films like ‘The Kashmir Files’, and ‘The Kerala Story’, many filmmakers have found the courage to explore the lesser-known aspects of Indian history.
One such instance is ‘Maa Kaali’. The first look of the same has been posted on social media. The film stars

and will simultaneously be made in Hindi and Bengali.
However, ‘Maa Kaali’ is not a spiritual film. It is a political drama, that will look into the events of August 16, 1946, which continues to be one of the darkest episodes in the chapters of Indian history. On this day, fundamentalists who advocated for Pakistan called for ‘Direct Action Day’, leading to one of the biggest genocides since the Holocaust.
To date, very few filmmakers in our country have been courageous enough to show the events of the Partition as they were, and not sugarcoat it, ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ being one of the earliest examples. Through ‘Maa Kaali’, movie-buffs will hope to know what happened on that dreadful night.
