Wasim Akram is a former Pakistani cricketer who was born on 3rd June 1966 in Lahore, Pakistan. He is also addressed as the Sultan of Swing. Akram was born to Chaudhary Muhammed Akram and Begum Akram. He has three siblings, two elder brothers and a younger sister. Naeem Akram and Nadeem Akram are his brothers, and Sofia Akram is his sister.  Akram went to Government Islamia College, Civil Lines, Lahore.
Akram was married to Huma Akram in 1995. He had two sons with Huma, Tahmoor and Akbar. Huma died in 2009 due to multiple organ failure in Chennai. Akram married Shaniera Thompson in 2013, and they have a daughter, Aiyla Sabeen Rose Akram.
Akram was a left-handed batsman and left-arm fast bowler. Akram began his cricket career as a tape ball cricketer. Then, he joined Ludhiana Gymkhana with his friend Khalid Mahmood’s help. He started his first-class career against New Zealand and played for BCCP Patron's Eleven. In 1984, he started his international career for Pakistan in ODI. The next year, he debuted against New Zealand in test cricket. He got ten wickets in his second match and turned popular. Â
In 1988, he started playing for Lancashire County Cricket Club. He got his 100th wicket in the Champions Trophy at Sharjah against West Indies. Curtly Ambrose was his 100th wicket. It was a career-defining match for Akram, as he took hat-trick wickets and also the second five-wicket haul. Akram played his international matches for Pakistan until 2003.
Akram played 104 test matches and scored 2898 runs. He bowled 2627 balls and took 414 wickets. He played 356 ODI matches and scored 3717 runs. He bowled 18186 balls and took 502 wickets. After retiring as a cricketer from international cricket, he started his career as a cricket commentator. The former Pakistani captain had also been a coach for the Pakistani team.
