Azhar Mahmood is a renowned Pakistani cricketer. He was born on February 25, 1975, in Rawalpindi, Rawalpindi. He was married to his British Pakistani wife in 2003. Azhar Mahmood is a bowling all-rounder. He had played for Pakistan, Auckland, Barbados Tridents, Barisal Burners, Dhaka Gladiators, Islamabad Cricket Association, Kent, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lahore Badshahs, Marylebone Cricket Club, Pakistan International Airlines, Rawalpindi, Surrey, and Unlimited Bank Limited. He has won various awards, such as a hundred on his debut, two unbeaten fifties in a match, the highest partnership for the tenth wicket (151), the most consecutive five wickets in an innings (2), 1000 runs, and 100 wickets.
Azhar Mahmood was the bowling coach of the Pakistan national cricket team from 2016 to 2019. Azhar has always had an interest in cricket since his childhood days. He was taught and mentored by Irfan Bhatti, who played a one-day international for Pakistan in the early 1990s. He became a British citizen in 2011, which allowed him to play for Kent. He then distanced himself from the Pakistani side, but Mahmood was appointed bowling coach of Pakistan from November 2016 to August 2019. Azhar Mahmood has also served as the bowling coach of two PSL franchises, the Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans. On December 3, 2021, Islamabad United announced him as head coach of their PSL team for the team's seventh season.
