Tanvir Naqvi was born with the name Syed Khursheed Ali, on 16 February, 1919, in Lahore, Pakistan. He belonged to a Persian family of writers and poets from Iran. He was married to Eidan Bai, with whom he had four children. He was a well-known poet and song lyricist. He began by writing poetry and ghazals. His poetry collection named Sunehre Sapne has been published in 1940. His debut film was Swami but he gained popularity when he wrote song lyrics for the movie Anmol Ghadi which was released in 1946. He is also known for his lyrics for movies like Ayaz and Ghoonghat. After the separation, Tanvir worked in Pakistan for over fifteen years. He gained popularity in Pakistan after releasing his song Rang Laageya Shaheedon ka Lahoo. He has been recognized as one of the greatest classical writers in Punjabi poetry and literature between 1950 and 1970. He has worked for more than two hundred films throughout his career.
