Wahiduddin Ahmed (born in 1916 in Gujarat), best known as W.Z. Ahmed on the film screen, went to Government Secondary School in Lahore, Pakistan. His father, is a well-known police officer in Gujarat, India.Wahiduddin has two brothers Z.A. Ahmed, a communist politician in Uttar Pradesh, and Zafaruddin Ahmed, a deputy inspector of police in Karachi. He has two wives, Safia Hidayattullah and Shahida, who is also an actor. His only son Fariduddin Ahmed was a talented Pakistan filmmaker. After Basic School, he picked an interest in script writing, and that made him move to Mumbai (Bombay) India to begin his career in the film industry. Wahiduddin Ahmed was a prominent Pakistan and British Indian filmmaker. He worked as a filmmaker in pre-film India, and he is a well-known figure in the film industry in Mumbai and Pune. Apart from Shalimar Pictures in Pune, he oversaw a studio in Madras.
He wrote the film script for the 1940 film, Kumkum the Dancer. From 1942 to 1947, he wrote EK Raat (1942), Man Ki Jeet (1944), Prem Sangeet, Prithviraj-Samyukta, and Meera Bai was produced and directed by him in (1947). Wahiduddin was not just a talented Director and a film writer. Ahmed's last Indian-made film starred Hindu devotee Meera Bhai, Film India editor. His career as a Pakistani filmmaker was not so promising, although he owned the W.Z.
Ahmed studios in Lahore. He produced two movies in the Pakistan film industry, which were Roohi (1954) and Waada (1957). Although the film Roohi was charged with encouraging discrimination, it was the first movie in Pakistan to get banned, and the ban on the film was lifted in 1954. He was awarded in (1957) as the best director for Waada during the Niagara award event In the same year, W. Z Ahmed led a campaign to protest against the import of Indian films into Pakistan. Unlucky he got detained during the campaign but he was set free. W. Z. Ahmed died in April 2007, his death affected the production and release of his ninth movie (Wafa ki Ada) until date. Wahiduddin was buried at Bagh-i-Rehmat graveyard in Lahore, Pakistan, India.
