His parents were originally from Islamabad, Pakistan. They had a military background, with his grandfather being an air commodore in the Air Force of Pakistan and his uncle being an air commodore and an ace F16 pilot during his career. Khan travelled between Pakistan and the US in his childhood days but later settled around Philadelphia. The actor pursued graduation in finance at the Pennsylvania State University and post-graduation in fine arts at Pace University. While in college, he was also a part of the college boxing team.

Before becoming an actor, Shaz worked with a Fortune 500 company in banking field. Although he was working as banking professional, he would appear for auditions and bag roles in local stage shows and movies. Eventually, he put in his papers and relocated to New York City to pursue acting at Actors Studio Drama School.

While in the US, the actor worked on small-time films. He featured in the short film Flutter, where he portrayed Jake. Flutter bagged the title Best Short Film at the California International Film Festival 2012.

However, it was when he visited Pakistan and auditioned for and bagged the lead role in Moor, a 2015 Pakistani dramatic flick where he portrays the character of Ehsaanullah Khan, that his real break came.

Moor won huge accolades and was Pakistan’s official entry for the 88^th Academy Awards. The flick was among the top fifteen contenders for foreign language Oscar.

Simultaneously, Shaz began to dabble in screen writing and film production. He scripted, directed, and produced the 2016 short film Say It Ain’t So which was released on his fan page. The short garnered over a million views in a month’s time itself. Shaz played a boxer named Ibby in the film.

Later, he received appreciation for playing Barrister Daniyal Ali Khan in the television series Yaqeen Ka Safar, aired on Hum TV.
