Shankar Patil

Shankar Patil is a Marathi Writer. He is also known as Shankar Babaji Patil. He was born on 8 August 1926 in Hatkanangale Taluka (Kolhapur District). He was educated at Tardal, Gadhinglaj, and Kolhapur up to B.A.B.T. After that, he learned in the schools of Ryot Shikshan Sanstha. Later he got an appointment in the Pune center of Akashvani. For his study on rural life, he received a scholarship from Asia Foundation in 1959. There he wrote his first novel Tarfula. His story writing flourished from 1960 to 1968. He edited Sahitya Sarita, in collaboration with Pradhan. Sahitya Sarita is a textbook for classes 8th to 10th. He was appointed as a Special Officer in the Maharashtra State Board of Textbook Development and Curriculum Research for the Marathi Language.

In 1972 He was also appointed as Academic secretary for the writing of textbooks in six languages. Valiv, Shankar Patil's first collection of stories, was published in 1957. Bhetigathi(1960), Abhaal(1961), Dhind(1962), Oon(1963), Wavari Sheng(1963), Khulachi Chavadi(1964), Pahuni(1967) ), Fakkad Kahoya(1973), Khel Khandoba(1974), Sarpanch in Taj Mahal(1977), etc. are published in an anthology. Each story from Valiv to Oon has been selected and won the Maharashtra State prize for the best story collection of that year. His stories were translated into various Indian and Western languages.

Through screenplay writing, he entered the film industry. He wrote various screenplays such as Watal, Gan Gaulan, Bholibhabadi, etc. He received government awards for his excellent screenplay dialogue writing. He is the writer of stories, screenplays, and dialogues for films. Shankar Patil wrote stories about rural life and its people so that he earned a place of honor. He keeps experience with his writings, so the vitality of his stories never ends. This famous writer passed away on 30 July 1994.
