Vishnupant Govind Damle was born on October 14th, 1892, in the Bombay Presidency of British India. He was an Indian director, sound engineer, and cinematographer for Marathi movies. He was also the sound recordist for Ayodheycha Raja (1932), the first film available on talkies in the Indian film industry. Then his production house created a series of ‘saint’ films- Sant Dnyneshwar (1936), Gopal Krishna (1938), and Ramshastri (1944). One of the films from this particular series, Sant Tukaram (1936) was the first Indian movie to be screened at the 5th Venice International Film Festival and received a ‘Special Recommendation.’ Sant Sakhu (1942) was his last movie. Vishnupant Govind Damle passed on the 5th of July, 1945 at the age of 52 in Pune, Maharashtra.
