Rajeev Naik is a renowned teacher, scholar, critic, actor, dramatist, poet, award-winning short story writer, and translator. He writes in Marathi. He has a Bachelor's degree in philosophy and psychology and earned a Ph.D. in languages and art. He made three significant contributions to the Centre for Performing Arts at Pune University, which Alekar revived as the organization's first active director. Naik created the curriculum for the theatre program, insisted that students of each performing art receive a foundational education in the others, and designed and edited a collection of nine textbooks for faculty and students to use, including one on the body, the instrument used by performing artists.
He has worked as an actor in the film Anapekshit directed and produced by Sanjeev Naik and written by Sharanh Dev, Raja Pargaonkar, and Sanjit Narvekar. Lagaleli Natake delivers a critical language analysis of 15 complete plays and four one-act plays. The chosen works range from Mricchhakatikam by Sudraka, which Naik translated into Marathi for a production staged by Antarnatya, the theatre company he helped co-found in the 1980s, to Sangeet Sharada by Othello and Deval, Uddhwasta Dharmashala by GP Deshpande, Begum Barve by Alekar, and Wada Chirebandi by Elkunchwar. Three of Rajeev Naik's plays have been published in English translation from the Marathi original by Shanta Gokhale.
The plays are Sathechya Kay Karachya (What I To Be Done About Sathe), Akhercha Parv (The Final Chapter), and Sandha (The Joint), and the publisher is Dhauli Publications, situated in Bhubaneswar. As a well-known naatakvala, Rajeev Naik has written eleven and a half plays in addition to five translations. In his work on topics like Space and Time in Theatre, Myth in Theatre, and Theatre Semiotics, Rajeev Naik has worked in universities in Mumbai and Pune. From 1984 through 1998, he was connected to the Antarnatya theatre company. Rajeev Naik has also received various honors and scholarships.
