He was born and brought up in Solapur in Maharashtra, along with his brother, Amod Kothari. Akshar Kothari completed his schooling at St. Joseph High School and Walchand College of Arts and Science in Solapur. He pursued his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Hirachand Nemchand College of Commerce. He is naturally drawn towards theatre plays as his mother used to act in plays. So, he moved to Mumbai and joined the Academy of Theatre Arts at the University of Mumbai to do his Master's in Theatre Arts. During his time in the university, Akshar Kothari was part of great plays like Ajintha, Virasat, Raigadala JevhaJaagYete, Punashccha Honeymoon, and more.
