Smita Vallurupalli is an Indian singer, actress, TV anchor, and businesswoman known for her works in Tollywood, Bollywood, and Kollywood. She was born on 4 September 1980 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. Her mother’s name is Jogu Prasad, father’s name is Prabhu Prasad, and her spouse’s name is Shashank and has daughter named Shivi. Her mother is from Telangana, and her father is from Vijayawada. She completed her B.Com at Maris Stella College, Vijayawada. She started singing and learning classical music at the age of 3. She was first seen in a talent show ‘Padutha Theeyaga’ on Telugu television channel ETV which was anchored by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam in 1997.
She started her career as a pop artist with her first film “Hai Rabba” in the year 2000. After her first blockbuster film, she began working on several other albums in Telugu and Tamil. Her album “Masaka Masaka” was one of her most popular albums crossing sales of over 1 million copies. She has sung over 75 playback songs and has worked with leading music composers from the south. She won a Filmfare award as best playback singer in Telugu films in the year 2005 for her song “Evaraina Chusuntara” from the film “Anukokunda oka roju” which was composed by M. M. Keeravani. Her first video single “Mahi Ve” a part of the album “Smita” was shot in two days with a troupe of eight professional British dancers on a huge set. She has given over 200 live performances in eight different countries and can sing in six different languages. She has appeared in films such as Malliswari in 2004, Aata in 2007, and Dying To Be Me in 2015, Chatrapathi, Jyo Achyutananda, and many more.
She has also started her production business with her I Candy Entertainments Pvt Ltd. The company produced ‘Tata Indicom-Dance with Me’ for Maa TV. She dedicated her album Ishana as an offering to Sadhguru. She is also related with Isha foundation which works in the field of education, environment, and rural initiatives. She has launched many other brands like Indian handloom brand Aalayam, and Old School, a range of beauty products inspired by tradition, ritual, and time proven ingredients.
