Anniesha Mawrie

Anniesha Mawrie is an Indian dancer, YouTuber, and television actress who hails from the glorious northeast part of India. This self-taught dancer was born and brought up in Rynjah, Shillong, Meghalaya, as the daughter of Regina Mawrie and Alfred. She started dancing at the tender age of four and had participated in many dance competitions in Rynjah since then. However, she had to give importance to academics as achieving in arts was not given equal encouragement as excelling in academics.

Anniesha completed her post-graduation and kicked off her career as a bank employee. However, she could feel no satisfaction in the job and called it quits for the greater good. She focused on dancing and resumed what she lost way back. She applied for a dance reality show called ‘ So You Think You Can Dance So you think you can dance is a reality show origi >> Read More... ’ in which she got shortlisted; she moved to Mumbai, Maharashtra. She was among the top 28, and under the Team Streets, she was among the top 11. She was part of a dance workshop that gave her an opportunity to work and train under many famous American dancers, including the famous Dytto.

Anniesha owns a dance academy in Rynjah where she trains students to instill in them a love for dancing. Students from less privileged backgrounds are taught the art for free. Her academy is named ‘Phoenix Dance Academy’ from the concept of Phoenix rising from the ashes. She believes that nothing should conform students from pursuing their passion. She also works as a social worker in the nearby Providence School, where she teaches dance to students.

Anniesha considers her mother as her inspiration to pursue a career in dance. Her mother was a dancer back in the day, but people’s lack of appreciation for the art and the insecurity of a career in the same prevented her from continuing it. Anniesha’s favourite form of dance is freestyle, but her focus is on urban hip hop. She is an avid dancer, she spends a minimum of eight hours practicing. In her free time, she also likes composing poems, in which she holds interest. She was also part of the 2018 mini web series titled ‘ Soulmates Soulmates is a romance web series on Zoom Tv.
